THE 3rd OCS is looking for a few good ensayos and essays in Spanish AND in English (along with Portuguese and others).

A few weeks ago, I wrote about some work on digital narratives in Spanish. What I failed to mention is that these groups allow (and even encourage) English submissions. So, let me invite you all readers to participate and submit academic papers to the the Congresss. Here’s the announcement.

O. C. S.
Observatory for the Cybersociety

3rd ONLINE CONGRESS. OBSERVATORY FOR CYBERSOCIETY. “OPEN KNOWLEDGE. FREE SOCIETY” (11/6/2006, 11/20/206-12/3/2006)

WORKING GROUP C-7: DIGITAL NARRATIVE. LITERATURE AND LITERATURES IN THE DIGITAL SOCIETY. NEW WAYS OF COMMUNICATION. NEW WAYS OF CREATION

This is a call for essays for C-7: DIGITAL NARRATIVE, organzied by the research group C[PyR] Comunicación, Poética y Retórica, Literatrónica.com, WRT Writer Response Theory, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá, and Desequilibros.com.

The O.C.S. is based in Barcelona, Spain. The last congress, held in 2004, had nearly 4000 participants; approximately 400 papers were published in the proceedings. The languages of the congress are English, Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Portuguese. DEADLINE: (10/31/2006)

The conference request FULL length submissions only.
Recommended length: 10-32 pages, though the length restrictions are flexible. Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings. Find more information on submission requirements here.

C-7 is just one of the many working groups currently accepting submissios. The C group is part of the Communication and Culture theme. In the continuing development of multi-lingual international dialogue about new media, I hope all will consider participating.

Attendance for the congress is free. If you want to contribute with a communication, or participate in the online discussions, please see more details at the English site.

For this working group, the central questions are:

  • Is digital Literature a new Literature, different from non-digital Literature?
  • How do new technologies influence literary communication and literary creation?
  • What is the function of readers in with respect to Literature in the digital society?
  • How is the author’s conscience configured in digital Literature?
  • How to consider or to reframe the copyright in the digital society?
  • Are literary genres reformulated in the creation of digital Literature?
  • What makes of digital narrative something exclusive of electronic media?
  • What makes of this type of reading something attractive to the reading public?
  • Why is narrative important?

This panel and all of OCS should be an intellectua hotspot where all attendees can freely access various points of view on digital literature without having to buy a cup of coffee.
